Iron Quantification with LiverLab

چکیده

Multi-echo Dixon VIBE contained in LiverLab provides liver fat fraction values which are corrected for the effects of transversal relaxation. By doing this, it also provides a simultaneous estimation of that transversal relaxation time T2*, which is corrected for fat signal effects, herefafter called T2c*. The reciprocal value of this estimate, fat-corrected R2c* = 1/ T2c*, can be used, within limits, to assess liver iron concentration (LIC). This note provides some guidelines for doing that.

Hepatic Iron Quantification on 3 Tesla (3 T) Magnetic Resonance (MR): Technical Challenges and Solutions

MR has become a reliable and noninvasive method of hepatic iron quantification. Currently, most of the hepatic iron quantification is performed on 1.5 T MR, and the biopsy measurements have been paired with R 2 and R 2* values for 1.5 T MR. As the use of 3 T MR scanners is steadily increasing in clinical practice, it has become important to evaluate the practicality of calculating iron burden a...

R2* for myocardial iron quantification at 3T CMR using an advanced shimming algorithm

Background Quantification of myocardial iron overload is critical for the management of patients with hemochromatosis. T2* relaxation time or its inverse R2*, are currently the noninvasive gold standard at 1.5T, as they strongly correlate with myocardial iron concentration, and are obtained using a fast single breath-hold ECG-gated multi-echo GRE sequence. However, due to high sensitivity to B0...

A fully automatic algorithm for assessing T2* and its certainty value for accurate cardiac and liver iron load determination

Background Quantification of myocardial and liver iron load has become a mainstay of guiding therapy in thalassaemia patients. However, current quantification methods are user dependent for data-point exclusion before curve fitting, and do not report the T2* certainty. Recently, an automatic inline maximum likelihood estimate (MLE) method with k-space Rician noise correction was validated again...

Quantification of liver fat in the presence of iron and iodine: an ex-vivo dual-energy CT study.

PURPOSE Iodinated contrast media (CM) and iron in the liver are known to hinder an accurate quantification of liver fat content (LFC) with single-energy computed tomography (SECT). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility and accuracy of dual-energy CT (DECT) for ex vivo quantification of LFC, in the presence of iron and CM, compared with SECT. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixteen p...

Myocardial iron quantification using modified Look-Locker inversion recovery (MOLLI) T1 mapping at 3 Tesla

Background Quantification of myocardial iron overload is critical for the management of patients with hemochromatosis. The effects of excess iron on T1 and T2* relaxation times correlate directly with tissue iron concentration. T2* became the clinical standard at 1.5T as it can be easily obtained in a fast one breath-hold ECG gated multi-echo GRE sequence. At 3T, however, T2* quantification can...
